And the Oscar goes to…

Hey folks!

You know, since I was old enough to stay up all night long I was always waiting for this one night of the year, when Hollywood rolls out the red carpet. In Germany I watched the Oscars on TV – the show ran from 1 am to 6 am – so you can imagine how peaky I looked the other day.

Now that Oliver and I live in California it was pretty clear to me that this year we would be LIVE at the Red Carpet on February 28th. Los Angeles isn’t that far away from where we live (only about 5 to 6 hours). For Saturday we booked a hotel room near Hollywood Blvd. (only five minutes to walk!) and checked the best spot to catch some celebrities. A friendly security guy gave us some hints which parts of the streets would be blocked.

Early in the Oscar-morning we headed to our paparazzi mission. It was strange, the Hollywood Blvd. which was so busy the day before now looked abandoned and somehow post-apocalyptic.

No, this is not a crime scene

Looks like a scene of “Zombie Apocalypse”

As you can see on the photos above the sidewalks were barricaded so we had to walk three blocks to cross the street and then back again. But finally we were lucky – just a few girls in front of us, all of them smaller than me ;). The day before we bought two camping chairs, which made things much easier now – because we had to wait at least five hours until the first stars would arrive.

Beloved camping chairs!

Though it was pretty hot we had a great time and talked to the other fans who were patiently waiting with us. The girls you can see in the photo above came from Mexico and had a professional camera equipment. They told me that they had been to several events like this and showed me some of their great photos. Besides, later they recognized all the stars pretty quick and started to scream their names really loud so that we always knew who was in front of us.

Waiting for the stars…

At two o’clock the first limousines arrived – of course none of the big stars. But it was still pretty exciting and I took some photos of beautiful dresses.

The big fishes arrived at 4 o’clock, and it was really worth waiting for them! Unfortunately the huge fences in front of us made it very difficult to get proper photos – but nevertheless it was much fun taking them. Look at our great catches!

Some of the celebs were really great. While we were cheering and screaming they took the time to smile and wave to us – what made us scream even louder. Unfortunately I can’t give you an impression of the atmosphere on the spot because the quality of our videos is really awful. So you just have to believe me, that we also saw the following stars, who all earn a huge “I love you!” because they smiled and waved to us and hence made us not feel like some insane stalkers.

Whoopi Goldberg – Leonardo di Caprio – Sylvester Stallone – Sophia Vergara

Especially Leo di Caprio was cheered a lot by the fans, since he was this years favorite for the category “Actor in a leading role” in the movie “The revenant”. And – as you certainly know – he also made it, finally.

Finally! Leonardo di Caprio holds his first Orscar.

After the red carpet show Oliver and me dressed up for our reservation in the Roosevelt Hotel, where we wanted to watch the Academy Award. It was a gorgeous evening with great food and champagne! We almost felt like celebrities ourselves.

What a night!

Next year we will be there again for sure! Maybe with a better camera 😉
